The core thrust of this project was to acquire a practical experience by exploring an alternative trekking route (Machhapuchhre Model Trek) for peace and prosperity through rural tourism. This model rural tourism has resulted in two forms. The first is as an organized trek route with the constructions of trekking tourists campsites and porters shelters in five wilderness places (Meshrom Kharka, Hile, Lalka, Khumai, and Pilicho) and the second is the development of a product for home stay of tourists in the local houses in seven villages (Lahachowk, Ghachowk, Machhapurchhre, Rivan, Lwangghale, Sardikhola, and Dhital) inhabited by 16,000 people varied ethnic groups in this route. Moreover, small scale basic infrastructure developments were built (Construction of five camp sites, five porter shelters and twenty five trail markings), and local people were trained in home-stay operation and management.
