The core research question is: Which strategies do poor people follow to sustain their livelihoods and how could their livelihood security be strengthened? Livelihood-oriented approaches from different scientific backgrounds are used to make an in-depth analysis of livelihood conditions -– with specific attention given to the wider institutional and political structures. This approach is applied specifically in two sub-themes: (see description in the menu bar on the left hand side).
