Research Theme Plastic protection for cotton plants (CAS-13)
Summary: CAS-13: Under Soviet rule, Khoresm has been a very important cotton producing area. Growing cotton under plastic sheets should allow to reduce water consumption (20 – 25 %), increase crop yield (15 – 20 %) and improve on quality. The requesting company intends to introduce at the same time a new, more efficient irrigation technique (siphoned furrow irrigation?). With the purposes of obtaining high crops yield and better water efficiency, the project aims at testing the optimum terms of sowing seeds under a plastic sheet cover, combined with improved irrigation technique.
