Research Theme Nile Capacity Building Forum on Water Development and Cooperation (HOA-8)
Summary: HOA-8: The objective of the project is to enhance knowledge and capacity of students / practitioners regarding water development and international cooperation in the Nile Basin in order to:
1) to increase knowledge,
2) to increase skills related to communication, diplomacy, conflict analysis and transformation, and
3) to understand the different country perceptions, and exchange perspectives.
In this process students and lecturers from the three countries of the Nile Basin will come together and discuss the issue in an interactive manner. A total of 30 students (10 each from Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan) will take part in this process initially in Sudan using PAMS funds but it will be repeated in the subsequent years in Ethiopia and Egypt using the funds of the Nile Basin Initiative. Atta El Batthani and Asha El Karib (Sudan); Yacob Arsano (Ethiopia) Magdy Hefny (Egypt) and Simon Mason (Switzerland) will be involved as resource persons. It is anticipated that the problem solving effect would happen by students directly interacting with students from other countries on these vital issues. This means that an epistemic community would be created, joining the three countries.
