| Summary: |
The main research focus within JACS South Asia is on the impact of global change and globalisation on marginal areas and marginal people in the highland-lowland and urban-periurban contexts in four countries of South Asia – Nepal, Pakistan, India and Bangladesh. Research attempts to understand how marginal people can improve their livelihoods in a sustainable manner, how their strategies can contribute to sustainable development, how marginal people cope with the present conflict situation and how governments and public policies can support these strategies further.
