Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda - map |
| Summary: |
In Kenya and Tanzania more than 50% of the population live in rural areas, these include large areas of arid and semi-arid land, in Kenya e.g. almost 80% of the surface. In addition there is significant population pressure resulting from immigrants from neighbouring high potential areas who bring with them land use practices that are incompatible with the existing environmental conditions.
Study aims of JACS East Africa are:
- Promoting local potentials
- Diversifying livelihoods
- Relating highlands and lowlands
- Securing urban services
- Interlinking case studies
