General Assembly

Composition and mode of operation

The General Assembly is an occasional conference of persons who are actively involved in, intend to become involved in, or are concerned with the NCCR North-South (IPs, bodies, JACS, PAMS, and management centre), plus persons invited by the administration and persons from third parties financing or supporting the programme.

The General Assembly undertakes to exchange information on the NCCR North-South; organise discussion of major issues emerging during the implementation of the programme; provide a forum for debating scientific outcomes and approaches, and adopt recommendations to the BoD relating to management.

The General Assembly has no decision-making power, but it is an important instrument for opinion-building and awareness creation. It is convened whenever there is an opportunity. For example, there was a first General Assembly at the inception of the NCCR North-South in September 2001 in Grindelwald. Future assemblies will be organised when international workshops or courses of the Graduate Training Programme are being held, or when an international conference of the NCCR North-South will take place.
