The North-South equity
There are several aspects of North-South disparity that we see and feel all the time while working with partners in an international context. Some of these are felt by us quite strongly, as researchers in our work, especially as the quality of work is strongly affected by this interdependence of southern and northern researchers and institutions. I would like us to reflect on which of our experiences while in this research project, generated strong feelings about this. If we collect these experiences in the NCCR N-S group, it will help to develop some indicators of the North-South equity in research partnerships that we face regularly, and that the programme may want to write about, and more importantly, do something about.

Discussion on Governance, Ethics and Social Learning
This paper summarises a “work in progress” started between IP 8 and IP1, aiming at the building of conceptual bridges between governance, ethics and social learning processes. A result is a preliminary conceptual framework for understanding how ethical principles underlying governance systems are intertwined with social practice in the perspective collective or social learning process.
We like to put forward our ideas to all members of the NCCR North-South Team and other interested researchers, because we are convinced that science is a process of social construction. It will flourish to the extent it is nourished by fresh ideas from all of you!
If you are interested in joining our project of elaborating a peer-reviewed paper on the issues discussed here, please let us know together with your comments.

Think globally in social sciences

In the newness of the XXI century and with the advances that new information technologies offer, we are able to discover and gain more knowledge. However, as we learn and analyze more, we move farther away from the possibility to transforming the problems that need to be changed in society
