Partnership Regions (JACS)
The NCCR North-South is based on research partnerships with researchers and research institutions in the South and East. These partnership regions are called JACS (Joint Areas of Case Studies). Regional Coordination Offices (RCOs) have been established and serve as secretariats in each of these JACS. Click in the map for information on the different JACS and their respective contact persons.

Why Research Partnerships?
Research activities in the NCCR North-South focus mainly on developing and transition countries. Eight regions or Joint Areas of Case Studies (JACS) have been selected in such countries - plus one in Switzerland. Specific research partnerships have been established with institutions in these regions, through which integrated, context-specific, and mitigation-oriented research is jointly conducted and developed.
The specific aim of these research partnerships is to study interrelated problems of non-sustainable development. By comparing specific combinations across the different regions, these partnerships try to identify typical patterns of problems that are based on similar processes and emerge in different regions of the world. This enables analysis and appraisal of syndromes of global change, as well as mitigation strategies.
